Fractions and decimals both show parts of a whole. A chart helps students recognize common values quickly, then the calculation shows why the match is true.
Key ideas
- To convert a fraction to a decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator.
- Some fractions end, like 1/4 = 0.25.
- Some fractions repeat, like 1/3 = 0.333...
- Decimals can also be written as percentages by multiplying by 100.
